About electric.nyc
A market transformation via large scale electrification has the potential to reduce New York’s real estate emissions by 85% and cut energy consumption in half rapidly. We present the opportunity to build a carbon-free New York, bringing business value to everyone involved.
The challenge of the century
New York - one of the world’s most modern and innovative cities - is dependent on an outdated century-old energy infrastructure. The majority of buildings are still heated and cooled with natural gas and steam. Today, the infrastructure is strained to the limit, harms the climate and threatens the future. To sustain the city’s long-term growth, the energy grid must supply 75% more power or become vastly more efficient and dynamic.
Replacing the outdated city-wide energy infrastructure would be extremely expensive, time consuming and almost impossible to manage without major disruptions to life in the city.
We need an innovative solution tailored specifically for New York.
A tailored solution
Introducing electric.nyc. A joint initiative led by Hudson Square Properties - Hines, Trinity Church Wall Street and Norges Bank Investment Management - and urbs, supported by NYSERDA.
Our solution introduces proven technologies for electrification of energy systems in the city’s century-old buildings. It presents the opportunity to deploy renewable energy within the existing energy infrastructure. The solution can be tailored and implemented for each specific block, building - or even floor, making it a cost- and resource-efficient answer to our urgent challenges.
A market transformation via large scale electrification has the potential to reduce New York’s real estate emissions by 85% and cut energy consumption in half rapidly. This would lead to an energy transition from fossil to renewables, create much needed green jobs, and support inclusiveness and social justice in local communities.
A carbon free New York
electric.nyc does not only present the opportunity to exceed the New York State clean energy goals and build a carbon-free New York. It empowers all stakeholders to propel the New York real estate industry into the future, bringing business value to everyone involved.
